Sotheby’s

As senior editor, I manage the North American and European editorial program, directing coverage of hundreds of auctions. I arrived at a pivotal moment in Sotheby’s history, as it made strategic investments in luxury designed to help weather the cyclical art and design markets. Under my tenure, we’ve brought in tens of thousands of new client leads and increased the average revenue of our core readership by 15%.

Features

A new program inviting high-profile writers to reflect on objects passing from collection to collection has more than doubled readership benchmarks.

Collecting Guides

With Sotheby’s expanding its marketplace offerings, I developed a series of evergreen collecting guides that have exceeded average readership by 43% and tripled average bids per reader.

Newsletters

I oversee the flagship email, Sotheby’s Selects, a weekly curated newsletter influencing over $3.25 million in annual bids and sales. Through A/B testing and optimization, I’ve increased the average revenue per reader by 15%, leading up to a 2025 relaunch.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

I joined The Met as part of a small team tasked with modernizing the 150-year-old museum’s digital programming and building an online audience to match the millions of people who visit each year. I launched a new online magazine and produced podcasts, videos and some of the most popular features in the museum’s history, earning nominations for two Webby Awards in the process.

Perspectives

I spearheaded a project to rejuvenate the long-running blog program as Perspectives︎︎︎—the museum’s first online magazine. Readership surpassed 1 million in its inaugural year.

Artist Interviews

When The Met expanded its engagement with contemporary artists beyond its renowned rooftop commission, I produced a series of videos featuring the selected artists. Nominated for a Webby Award.

Close Look

After Perspectives launched, I worked with product teams to pilot an editorial flagship that shattered existing audience benchmarks and quickly became the museum’s most popular pages online.

Voice & Style Guide

With The Met’s growing digital program demanding a fresh online identity, I coauthored the museum’s first web style guide—including voice and tone principles. Later I contributed to a museum-wide project to publish its Inclusive Language Guide.

Art Magazines

I’ve appeared on the mastheads of art magazines large and small, from Frieze to The Brooklyn Rail to TheGuide.art. Additionally I’ve contributed as a freelance editor and/or ghostwriter to Cultured and LensCulture, among other publications, as well as for several respected artists and galleries.

Frieze

When Frieze needed an interim editor, they approached me to cover exhibition reviews for the Americas and Asia, in print and online. After they filled the role, I remained on the masthead as a contributing writer︎︎︎.

TheGuide.art

The Guide was a popular but short-lived publication run by Lanya Snyder, Rachel Small, Lisa Yin Zhang, Evan Moffitt and me. I edited the daily reviews and co-edited weekly profiles accompanied by original photography. The publication is saved on archive.org︎︎︎.

The Brooklyn Rail

As associate editor of the vital independent newspaper, I was responsible for about 10 reviews each issue. During my tenure, we expanded coverage to international exhibitions and grew readership 30%. In 2021 I returned as guest critic, and I remain a regular contributor︎︎︎.
